The project has been designed to address the priorities identified in the local energy plan
Legal framework
What are the key enabling factors that will make the benefits achieveable? [3.]
The project requires close collaboration of three community stakeholder organsiations to ensure an integrated solution that supports the development of energy storage for a community building that is combined with the installation of an electric vehicle charger and 'anchored' by the purchase and overnight charging of an community-owned electric vehicle.
Management
What are the key enabling factors that will make the benefits achieveable? [4.]
The project has been designed to encourage proactive engagement of residents and visitors and requires community leadership to bring about an integrated approach and solution.
Management
What are the key enabling factors that will make the benefits achieveable? [5.]
The economic benefit realised by the 'community hub' through reduction in electricity costs and increase in 'footfall' to the cafe.
Finance
What are the key enabling factors that will make the benefits achieveable? [6.]
Economic and social benefits of increased access to community transport that reduces the number of independent journeys and associated costs.

What role does the community play? [Other]
The local authority and other bodies provide funding to support some of the charitable aims of the organisations, but have not played an active role in the development or funding of this project.
What role do consumers play?
Garadh a' Bagh a' Tuath generates some of its energy from a 6kW wind turbine that is located next to the building. The organisation is seeking to improve the utilisation of on-site generated power through the installation of energy storage and reduce export to the grid and the need to then import more expensive energy back to the site when required. The site is not currently used outside day time hours or at the weekend. There is limited on-site demand for power during this period and on-site generation is exported to the grid as there is no on-site storage.
Has a structured risk assessment been conducted?
No
What are the identified risks for the success of the initiative? [Risk 1]

No
Which additional aspects are central to your business model? [1.]
The model reflects the unique relationship between three community based charities (two of which will own assets in this project) to work together in collaboration to achieve actions and outcomes identified in the local energy plan.
Which additional aspects are central to your business model? [2.]
Voluntary Action Barra & Vatersay will need to agree a purchase price for electricity used for charging the electric vehicle at the Garadh 'Community Hub'. It is anticipated that the price will be less than the charge made to visitors to the site.
Which additional aspects are central to your business model? [3.]
The separate provision of community services does not require a legal agreement to be put in place, except for a purchase price for power for vehicle charging. The model relies on the organisations continuing to deliver the community services that they undertake as separate entities: Garadh a' Badh a' Tuath owns and manages the community building, land and wind generation asset where the electric vehicle charger will be situated; Voluntary Action Bara & Vatersay will own and operate the electric vehicle that will be based at the community building.
Which additional aspects are central to your business model? [4.]
The funding package that has been applied for relies on an integrated approach across the community based organisations. Without this access to funding may be restricted.
